Intergenerational Trauma

Updated: Oct 7, 2021

The human female is born with all of her eggs already formed and ready to mature.

That means your grandmother carried your mother and also your genetic material during her pregnancy.

That means the stress your mother experienced during her pregnancy with your mother is also playing a role in your life.

We are interconnected with our ancestors. We are an expression of their lives!

When humans experience stress, they adapt to it.

Sometimes the stress is acute: people are involved in accidents, they lose everything in a fire or a flood.

Sometimes stress is chronic: people live in poverty, have no access to food, they are involved in years of wars, decades of abusive relationships.

Our bodies adapt to this stress by changing their gene expression.

This is called the epigenetic change.

These changes happen in response to environmental cues (mental, emotional, physical, and chemical stressors).

When our genetic expression changes, the CHANGED DNA is then passed down to our children.

In fact, in 2017 researchers discovered that these kinds of environmental genetic changes can be passed down for a whopping 14 generations!

What year was it 14 generations ago? About 1530 AD

Can you imagine what your family has been through since 1530?

  • how many droughts and periods of famine they had to live through?

  • how many wars and conflicts they had to survive?

  • how much pressure they had been under?

  • how many times they had to emigrate and leave their families behind?

  • how many years of oppression they had been under?

We are carrying their unresolved trauma, outdated coping mechanisms, family values that no longer make sense in 2020, and from the metaphysical standpoint, we even inherit their vows, promises, and pacts!

Your problems in life didn't necessarily start with you!

But you have the ability to respond to that by resolving the stress you inherited through your family's DNA.

Some of the intergenerational problems include:

  • keloids

  • hoarding

  • weight issues

  • limiting beliefs

  • thyroid issues

  • fibromyalgia

  • abundance issues

  • fears and phobias

  • addictions

  • genetic disorders

I would like to end this article on a positive note: when you heal a problem in yourself that has a generational component to it, you send that healing change back through your genealogy to your ancestors (your mother, grandmother, and back).
